Rezwan Shahriar Sumit_Profile

REZWAN SHAHRIAR SUMIT    director | writer | producer

Sumit was born and raised in Bangladesh's boisterous capital Dhaka. City Life, his first docu-drama, earned him a place at the prestigious Berlinale Talents 2008 as an up-and-coming director. There, the likes of Andrzej Wajda, Stephen Daldry instilled a confidence in him. For the first time, he realized filmmakers are change-agents in the same way student politicians or grassroots inventors are.

Almost all of his films portray aspects of living life as a Bangladeshi - be it rekindling love on Bangla New Year or protesting against 1971 war criminals. He is intrigued when real social dilemmas are portrayed in built worlds.

Sumit went to the Grad Film Program of New York University as a Tisch Fellow. Currently, he splits his time between New York & Dhaka.
